The latest happenings
I know I'm horrible at updating, but I'll try to be better about it. David just got in a top tooth, but not one of the front ones, which brings the tooth total to 3. On Tuesday, the 28th, he took his first step! We didn't capture it on camera because neither of us was expecting it. Dave and I were close to each other and we just kinda did the "go to daddy" thing and he went...with neither of us holding him. We both snapped our heads up to look at each other and said "did he just?" Sooo, yeah. He gets super excited when he stands by himself and he's starting to be able to twist around and bend a little without holding on to anything. He's turning into such a little boy... our baby is growing sooo fast!
In other realms, not much new is happening with the job situation. Dave went to a career fair put on by the local paper, and although there were many employers there, most of them were not hiring. That's right...a job fair without jobs. It was a little disappointing. Most of the law enforcement jobs we're seeing now have a new trend as well...if they're hiring for more than laterals (current police officers just transferring) they require current enrollment in a police academy. One more way they can cut their budget is to stop putting their officers through a academy, but we're trying to avoid doing that ourselves. It would cost a couple thousand dollars, he would not be able to work for the 6 months of the academy, and it doesn't guarantee he'll get hired by anyone. If we could get him hired somewhere we wouldn't mind paying for the academy because we know it would be worth it, but the job announcements all say that proof of enrollment is required with the application. What an inopportune time to graduate, huh?
We're just going to continue to pray that we find an opportunity to work, and wait until Hall Advisor positions open in June. If we move out of state again, that would be our best option, so we'll have to wait and see what happens.
Here's a picture just because of another face we often see...

That's pretty bad--a job fair without jobs. I hope things start looking up in that department. Sure wouldn't mind it if you ended up out here again :)
